It’s Spring, 1906, in Ridgetop, South Carolina.  Mirandy is excited about the Annual Junior Cakewalk dance.  The winner gets a triple-decker cake.  Suddenly, Brother Wind swoops in and makes a mess of things.  Ma Dear tells Mirandy about the Legend of Brother Wind.   “Whoever can catch Brother Wind can make him do their bidding.”  Mirandy will catch Brother Wind.  He can really kick up his heels and shake his tail feathers – the perfect dance partner.  Grandmama Beasley tells Mirandy, “can’t nobody can put shackles on Brother Wind, chile.  He be special, he be free”.  Leave it to Mirandy, she’ll grab hold of that Brother Wind and win that delicious cake!  Through her journey to capture Brother Wind, Mirandy learns about freedom, friendship and kindness.
