Two-time Emmy Award–winning Canadian composer and arranger Hummie Mann has collaborated with many of Hollywood’s most celebrated directors in both film and television, including Mel Brooks, Peter Yates, Jonathan Kaplan, Norman Jewison, and Joe Dante. His diverse film credits range from Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Dracula: Dead and Loving It to Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Year of the Comet, and Wooly Boys. Mann’s television work includes scores for In Cold Blood, P.T. Barnum, Masters of Horror, Picture Windows, and Rebel Highway, earning him two Emmy Awards and multiple nominations. He has also co-produced, orchestrated, and conducted film scores for Marc Shaiman on Sleepless in Seattle, City Slickers, and The Addams Family, among others, and contributed orchestrations to numerous other major studio films.
In addition to his screen work, Mann has made significant contributions to theatre and music education. His musical adaptation of Peter and the Wolf premiered at Seattle Children’s Theatre to critical acclaim and toured nationally, followed by The Brementown Musicians and other stage collaborations. A graduate of Berklee College of Music and recipient of its Distinguished Alumnus Award, Mann founded the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program, now part of the Seattle Film Institute, which Music School Central named one of the world’s top schools for film composition. He has taught internationally, lectured at major film festivals, and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Salford. Most recently, he scored the feature documentary Automat, earning a Critics’ Choice Documentary Award nomination for Best Score.
