Beauty and the Beast (Kenny) (Musical)

by Mike Kenny
Based on the story by LaPrince de Beaumont
With music by Julian Butler

This is a refreshing, funny new twist on a classic tale. Beauty is a spoiled girl who has never had to work. To teach her a lesson, her fairy Godmother creates a series of challenges for Beauty that ultimately traps her in the estate of the Beast. It is when Beast releases Beauty that she realizes she loves him, and returns to Beast’s castle just in time to save him from death. The story that we came to tell of the ugliness that beauty hides where only love can break the spell and show the person that’s inside.

Mike Kenny’s script takes both Beauty and her Beast on a voyage of self-realization. As ever with Kenny, there is nothing twee. He makes his audience think and feel and chuckle.
