After being abandoned by his father at a monastery, Diego, the oldest son of Christopher Columbus, attempts to stow away on the Santa Maria but instead, inadvertently boards a ship of Jewish exile, scheduled, in actuality, to embark the very same day. There his story becomes irrevocably entwined with that of Rosa, a young Jewish girl. And so beings an unanticipated journey of discovery, through which Diego navigates his own personal "Sea of Darkness."

Winner of the IUPUI/Bonderman Playwrighting Award

“An excitingly unusual play for children in a Brechtian style which will appeal to theatre for young audience companies who are searching for challenging new material.…Reminded me of complex productions for children that I have seen in France or in Scandinavia.” ~TYA Today

"A deft combination of belly laughs and thoughtful ideas about life, including some of its uglier aspects, such as why people hate other people simply because they’re different” ~ New Era
