The Jade Emperor & Empress are hosting a feast when suddenly, a monkey hatches from a rock & declares himself King, enraging heaven & earth. After the Emperor fails to to capture him, the Monkey challenges Buddha himself! Losing the battle, the Monkey's earthly adventures begin. Accompanied by a monk and two animal companions, the four set off on a quest which tests their character.

Shen Pei

Born in Nanjing, China, she is a world-renowned, award-winning dance artist, rated by China as Choreographer of the First Rank and listed in The Anthology of Chinese Artists and Who's Who in Famous Women, Ancient and Modern. She has preformed around the world; choreographed numerous dances that have toured internationally; authored two books on dance; and received the first Lu Shin Arts and Literature Award in 1995 for her contribution to the arts. Shen Pei brings to Minnesota fifty years of experience as a dancer, choreographer, theater artist, and dance theorist. In the Twin Cities she created numerous works bridging Chinese and western cultures including Legend of the White Snake Lady at Theater Mu and Cut Sleeve with Marcus Young at Intermedia Arts. She has been honored with a St. Paul Companies Leadership Initiatives in the Neighborhoods award, a community leadership award from the State Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans, and two McKnight Foundation Choreographer's Fellowships. From 1994 to early 2005 she was Artistic Director of CAAM Chinese Dance Theatre where she created more than 12 full-length works for stage. Most recently she premiered the dance drama Sun & Moon at the Southern Theater.
