Jack
by Mike Kenny
This version of Jack and the Beanstalk is a wonderfully creative work that follows the classic storyline, but adds a bit of a contemporary twist. Our story begins with Jack in a dinner pot awaiting his fate as dinner for the Giant, when Jack recounts how he found himself on the Giant’s dinner menu and begins to talk his way out of the soup pot.
As the story continues there is a relationship that is developed between Jack and Gertrude, the Giant’s wife. She confides her feelings of being overlooked and taken for granted by the Giant, while he describes the disappointment he has caused his mother. It is this relationship that helps both Jack and Gertrude find their way to happier lives.
